Transition Goals for Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing

Transition Goals for Mainstream and Residential Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing are:
  • For each student to reach his/her highest academic potential, as it relates to an appropriate vocational goal,
  • For each student to demonstrate the knowledge needed to transition into employment or to transition into a postsecondary setting.
  • For each student to have access to a support system that will ensure the highest possible quality of life.
  • For each Rehabilitation Counselor for the Deaf or Hard of Hearing to have the information needed to assist the student in making appropriate transition decisions, including vocational potential, vocational interests, academic potential, etc.
  • For each student who enters postsecondary training (vocational school, college or university) to complete the course of study and get a job in the selected field of study.
  • For each student who enters competitive employment to successfully maintain employment and have opportunities for advancement.
  • For each student who enters supported employment to successfully maintain employment at his/her highest potential.
  • For ADRS Deaf Services to be more cost effective in providing services to deaf students.

Transition Plan for Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
  • To achieve the transition goals outlined in the ADRS Strategic Plan for Services to Consumers who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, or Late-Deafened.
  • To identify the existing transition service options that are currently available and determine their effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Assist the existing transition service options to become more effective.
  • Establish programs or services to fill the transition services needs where identified.
  • Monitor the outcomes of transition services and programs.
